  1. For soft rock (f=1-3), use cross-shaped inserted-tooth bits. Their wide slag grooves expel soft cuttings fast, avoiding clogging. These bits need HRC45 alloy teeth, not overly hard.
  2. Medium-hard rock (f=4-8) requires button bits with HRC50-55 carbide teeth. Multi-point impact crushes rock. Conical lips reduce contact area, boosting impact strength. In sandstone (f=6-8), replace bits every 50 meters to prevent excess wear.
  3. Hard rock (f>10) needs high-pressure column-tooth bits. Alloy teeth reach HRC58+, with carburizing for wear resistance. A water well drilling rig uses 42CrMo steel bodies, quenched-tempered for fatigue resistance. Force air cooling prevents tooth fall off from high heat.
