Safety Operation Norms for Water Well Drilling Rigs in Hydrogeological Exploration

A water well drilling rig works in tough outdoor environments. Safe operation ensures smooth exploration.

  1. Site selection and preparation: Avoid high-voltage lines (≥50m), steep slopes and pipelines. Level sites to ≤5° slope; secure rigs with legs. A mountain rig on a 20° slope tilted, bending drill pipes—no injuries, though.
  2. Equipment checks and safety during drilling: Inspect power, transmission and brake systems pre-start. One rig’s worn rope broke, dropping tools and damaging the hole. Wear helmets, gloves and goggles while drilling. Stop and power off before repairs. A worker was hit by rock fragments—no goggles caused injury.
  3. Electrical safety and emergency plans: Electric rigs need intact cables, no crushing or water exposure. Ground resistance ≤4Ω prevents leaks. A broken cable shocked an operator—new cables fixed this. Have plans for tipping, jamming and injuries. One rig’s jam was solved by reversing slowly, avoiding breakage.

Following norms cuts accidents by over 80% for the water well drilling rig, protecting people and equipment.
