Types of Rock Core Drilling Rig for Oil Exploration
Not all rock core drilling rig are the same. Different oilfield terrains need different tools.
- Land – Based Rotary Rigs: These are workhorses for onshore exploration. They spin drill bits to cut through soil and rock. They handle most shallow to medium – depth drilling tasks.
- Offshore Jack – up Rigs: They stand on legs that “jack up” above the sea. Perfect for shallow coastal waters. They provide stable platforms for core sampling.
- Slim – Hole Rigs: These drill narrow holes. They work well in remote areas where large rigs can’t reach. They save time and money for initial surveys.
Choosing the right rig depends on location and depth. A good match speeds up exploration and cuts costs. Each type brings unique strengths to the challenging job of finding oil and gas.
