Geological characteristics of salt layers and the operation foundation of water well drilling RIGS

Salt layers are mainly made of soluble minerals like rock salt and gypsum, with high solubility and low strength. Due to their special physico-chemical properties, salt layers creep and plastically deform under pressure and temperature changes. This brings many challenges to water well drilling rig operations:

  1. During drilling, salt layers easily shrink in diameter, reducing borehole size and jamming drill tools.
  2. Brine formed by salt layer dissolution is highly corrosive, damaging rig equipment.

To tackle these issues:
3. Survey the salt layer’s thickness, burial depth, and composition in detail before operation.
4. Choose suitable drilling techniques and corrosion-resistant rig equipment based on actual conditions to lay the foundation for follow-up work.water well drilling rig
