Problems and Countermeasures of Hole Formation Stability of Sand and Gravel Layer Water Well Drilling RIGS

When constructing a water well in gravel layers, hole stability is the primary challenge. Gravel layers have poor particle cementation and high porosity. Groundwater flow can easily cause hole wall collapse and shrinkage, seriously affecting well quality and construction safety.water well drilling rig

To address this, mud wall technology is crucial. Prepare high-viscosity, high-specific gravity mud (e.g., bentonite mud with cellulose thickeners) to form a solid mud cake, enhancing hole wall impermeability and support.

  1. Use casing protection by advancing steel casing to stable strata, isolating gravel layers from the hole wall.
  2. Strictly control the drilling speed during construction to avoid excessive soil disturbance.
  3. Maintain the mud level 1–1.5 meters above the groundwater level to balance internal and external hole pressures, effectively improving hole stability.water well drilling rig
