Prevention and Treatment of Wellbore Collapse of Water Well Drilling RIGS in Soft soil layers

Borehole wall collapse is a common issue in soft soil water well drilling. Soft soil has low shear strength, so borehole walls easily collapse due to groundwater seepage and drilling disturbances.water well drilling rig

To prevent collapse, mud wall protection is crucial. Here are key measures:

  1. Optimize Mud Properties: Configure mud with controlled density, viscosity, and sand content.
    • Maintain density at 1.1–1.3 g/cm³ and viscosity at 18–22 s to enhance borehole stability.
  2. Control Mud Level: Keep the mud surface 1–2 m above the groundwater level. This creates a pressure difference to balance lateral soil pressure.
  3. Treat Collapses Promptly:
    • Backfilling Method: Use clay or cement-soil to backfill the collapsed area, then resume drilling after soil stabilization.
    • Casing Protection: Drive casing into stable strata to isolate the collapsed soil.water well drilling rig
