Selection and maintenance of hydraulic oil for water well drilling rig

Hydraulic oil is thebloodof the rig’s hydraulic system, directly affecting performance and lifespan.water well drilling rig. Proper selection and maintenance ensure reliable operation.

  1. Selection criteria: Choose oil based on system pressure, ambient temperature and component types. Medium-low pressure systems (<16MPa) use L-HM anti-wear oil; high-pressure ones (>31.5MPa) need high-pressure types like L-HV for cold areas. Viscosity is key—too high causes overheating, too low increases wear. Northern winters require high-viscosity-index oil (e.g., 46# low-temperature anti-wear oil) to prevent solidification.
  2. Replacement cycles: First change after 200 hours of initial use, then every 500-800 hours. Shorten in harsh environments—desert rigs need changes every 300 hours to avoid pump wear from dust. Drain old oil fully and clean tanks/filters when replacing.
  3. Daily maintenance: Keep oil level between 1/2-2/3 of the tank scale. Check contamination weekly—replace if oil turns black or emulsifies. Clean filters monthly. Never mix different oils; this may cause seal swelling and leaks.
