Salt layers’ creep and plastic deformation easily lead to
diameter shrinkage, severely affecting water well drilling rig operations. To prevent shrinkage:
-
Adopt casing wall protection. Install casing immediately after drilling to isolate salt layers from borehole fluids, stopping further deformation.
-
Reasonably control drilling speed and mud properties. Avoid excessive speed to reduce disturbance, and increase mud density/viscosity to strengthen wall support.
-
Use salt-layer-specific anti-shrinkage bits. Their special design trims the borehole wall during drilling, maintaining stable diameter for smooth rig work in salt layers.water well drilling rig
